Why Marietta Is Home Base for JJC Concrete
Marietta is where JJC Concrete is based, and it is the city we know first. We are a family owned company, family members including the owner's sons work on the crew, and we are licensed and insured.
Our main work today is poured basement and foundation walls for builders, and we also want more residential jobs from our own neighbors. Homeowners can hire us for driveways, patios, slabs, walkways, steps and stoops, and for concrete removal and replacement.
We pour walls with aluminum forms, and the metal forms give the finished walls a smooth face. We have poured walls as tall as 24 feet, and you can read more about that side of the business on our poured basement walls page.
Who Issues Permits for Concrete Work in Marietta?
It depends on where the property sits. The City of Marietta says building permits are needed for all new construction and to enlarge, alter, repair, move or demolish a building. Its Engineering Division, part of the Public Works Department, issues land disturbance permits, reviews site plans and inspects erosion and sediment control.
A Marietta mailing address does not settle the question. Unincorporated parts of Cobb County, East Cobb included, are assigned Marietta addresses, and those properties fall under Cobb County rather than the city. The Cobb County Community Development Agency's retaining wall checklist states that retaining walls 30 inches and taller must be permitted and asks for a design stamped by a Georgia registered professional engineer.
Permit requirements are set by the city or the county, not by us. Ask about permits for your project when you call, and have your address handy so the right office is clear from the start.

Piedmont Hills and Red Clay in Cobb County
Cobb County sits in the Piedmont physiographic province, according to the National Park Service's geology summary for Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Big Kennesaw rises 1,808 feet above sea level, and the New Georgia Encyclopedia describes the Piedmont as low hills and narrow valleys.
The red in Georgia clay comes from iron oxides left by long weathering. That weathered layer, called saprolite, erodes easily once trees and ground cover are stripped away, which matters on any lot where a machine has opened up the ground for a slab or a wall.
USDA soil descriptions place Cecil soils, with a red clay subsoil, on Piedmont ridges and side slopes ranging from flat up to 25 percent. The 1973 Soil Survey of Cobb County mapped Madison and Pacolet soils on 10 to 15 percent slopes near Dallas Highway and Barrett Parkway. On ground like that, grading, base preparation and where the water goes all deserve attention before any concrete is placed.
For a homeowner, slope shows up as a driveway that climbs from the street to the garage, or a patio pad that needs a step or a short wall on its low side. For a builder, it shows up as a basement with more exposed wall on the downhill face, which is where retaining walls and careful footing work come in.
Driveways, Patios and Flatwork for Marietta Homes
Marietta counted 60,972 residents in the 2020 census, and the Census Bureau estimated 63,574 by mid 2025, with 47.2 percent of homes owner occupied. Homeowner flatwork is the part of the business we want to grow, and these are the jobs we pour.
Residential work we pour includes:
- Concrete driveways, including tear out and haul off of the old concrete
- Patios for grilling, seating and outdoor dining
- Garage floors and slabs for garages, sheds and pads
- Sidewalks and walkways that connect the driveway to the front door
- Front and back entry steps and stoops
- Concrete removal and replacement for cracked or heaved sections

Poured Walls for Builders Working in Marietta
Builders and general contractors across metro Atlanta hire JJC Concrete for footings, basement walls, poured foundation walls, crawl space foundations, subwalls and retaining walls. Our equipment on hand includes aluminum forms, lasers, excavators and bobcats.
On a sloped Marietta lot, a basement wall does double duty: it carries the house and holds back the earth on the uphill side. Our commercial wall work covers each of those wall types, and builders can request a bid with plans for the lot.
What helps us quote a Marietta job
For a homeowner job, the rough size of the area, what is there now and how a truck or bobcat reaches it are a good start. For builders, send the plans, the lot address and the wall heights you need, and mention any engineered retaining wall details the county or city has already asked for.
Marietta, the Square and the Towns Next Door
The Georgia legislature recognized Marietta as a town on December 19, 1834, and today it serves as the county seat of Cobb County. The Marietta Square, with Glover Park at its center, is the city's central gathering place, and Interstate 75 runs through the eastern part of town.
Marietta sits near the middle of the county between Kennesaw and Smyrna. If your project is just over one of those lines, see our pages for Kennesaw, Smyrna and East Cobb. Hablamos español, so Spanish speaking homeowners and crews can talk through a job in the language they prefer.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does concrete work cost in Marietta?
Price depends on the job: its size, the site, the access and what has to come out first. Tell us what you want poured, whether that is a driveway or a full basement, and ask for a free estimate or a bid for your Marietta project.
Do you pour basement and foundation walls?
Yes. Poured basement and foundation walls are our main work, and we pour them with aluminum forms that leave a smooth finish on the wall. We have poured walls as tall as 24 feet for builders and general contractors around metro Atlanta, and we take on homeowner projects too.
Is JJC Concrete insured?
Yes, we are licensed and insured, and we are a family owned business based in Marietta, and family members, including the owner's sons, work on the crew. If a builder or homeowner has questions about insurance for a Marietta job, bring them up when you request your estimate or bid.
Do you pull permits in Marietta?
Permit requirements are set by the City of Marietta or by Cobb County, depending on whether the property is inside city limits. A Marietta mailing address alone does not tell you which. Ask about permits for your specific project when you call, and have the property address ready.
What areas do you serve besides Marietta?
Metro Atlanta is where our work is concentrated. Along with Marietta, we have pages for Smyrna, Kennesaw, Acworth, Powder Springs, Austell, Mableton, East Cobb, Woodstock, Douglasville, Hiram, Dallas, Villa Rica, Fairburn, South Fulton and McDonough. If your town is missing, ask anyway and describe the job.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes, hablamos español. Homeowners, builders and site crews in Marietta can talk through a driveway, a patio or a set of basement walls in Spanish or English. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM, so reach out during those hours to talk about your job.
